Harlow James

Previously, she was Maya Hart from the show Girl Meets World. As a little girl, Maya heard someone singing, so she climbed up a fire escape and into a window--and that was how she met Riley Matthews, her favorite person in the entire world. As they grew up, Riley's family became Maya's family in more ways than one, and Riley's bay window was always a place with its own sort of magic. Maya was a bit of a troublemaker, a bit of an outsider, and the epitome of "looks harmless, but will fight you." She didn't like to get her hopes up--as if she needed to, when Riley had enough hope for ten people--to avoid disappointment, but eventually learned to not build her walls so high. Riley would only scale them anyway.

Now she's Harlow James, 19. The Jameses have always been solidly blue collar, a fact Harlow's mom was never satisfied with; eventually she picked up and left. They lived in New Orleans until Harlow was ten, when her dad got laid off and they had to move to Michigan just to make ends meet. Harlow didn't mind the cold, or the having to start over at a brand new school in the middle of the year, but she hated having to leave her best friend Charlie. And she never stopped planning how to get back. Charlie needs protecting, you see, and Harlow knows she's a better person with Charlie in her life. Her cynical edge and Charlie's relentless optimism balance out; Harlow sees the world the way it is and Charlie sees it the way it should be. So she's worked two jobs since the day after she graduated high school and between that and everything she's saved since she was ten, she has enough to move back to New Orleans, start community college, and--most importantly--be with Charlie.
